Our roots in South African literature run deep. As early as the 1930s, Shuters was pioneering the publication of isiZulu novels, poetry, and school materials. We recognised then—as we do now—the importance of bringing African languages to the heart of formal education.

Completing matric is no small feat: it represents the accumulation of years of hard work, countless hours of study, access to and the use of accurate and comprehensible learning materials, as well as the resilience to overcome challenges both inside and outside the classroom. The Class of 2025 has shown extraordinary determination, and their success is a beacon of hope for the future of our country.

As you all step into the next chapter of your lives, whether it be higher education, vocational training, or entering the workforce; we urge you to remember that learning is a lifelong journey. Education, like many other sectors of life, is a path filled with challenges and sometimes setbacks are part of the process. What matters most is the courage to rise again, the courage to learn from the experience and the drive to keep moving forward no matter what. Many successful leaders and changemakers have faced obstacles along the way, but they persevered. So can you.
